INTRAMURALS 2017 CHAMPION

A flip of coin echoed history. College of Teacher Education finally reigned in Cebu Normal University’s annual sporting intramurals event as it halted the succeeding wins of College of Arts and Sciences for 16 years yesterday. With 101 gold, 49 silver and 40 bronze medals, CTE defeated CAS’ 39 gold, 67 silver and 32 bronze medals.CTE screamed all around the CNU Court as it finally grabbed the title for a long time. (cont)

It was not an easy success for CTE to regain the trophy again due to hectic schedules that was a major conflict to be able obtain it’s current achievement. Hunger for the trophy, the support from all the CTE students, from their dean, Dr. Abao, and ofcourse, the all out support from it’s athletes were the motivation for all, according to Vice Governor from Educator’s Club Jibon Christine B. Maybe in tears and devastating as it may seems, but Council of Liberal Arts and Sciences Students were open to all the possibilities for this years intramurals. Sad but grateful to where their efforts went as felt by the C.L.A.S.S officers. “The champions need to rest sometimes.” A statement by C.L.A.S.S Information Officer Amale Nicole Juliano But there is still a reason to celebrate for the council.

Ice cream party is still to be thrown at Japanese Garden on Monday as an expression to say thank you also to it’s CAS students. CAS being the 1st runner up is followed by CNU from Medellin, the 2nd, College of Nursing 3rd and 4th runner up, CNU Balamban.

CNU Medellin continues their reign as they beat College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in the basketball championship match men's division (67-44). The defending champion once again showcased their skills in the field of basketball as they guarded their throne for the seventh time. During the first half, the game was very close as CAS dominated the first quarter leaving a score of 20-12.

But in the second quarter, the lead was cut down to 2, leaving a score 26-24. In the third quarter, CNU Medellin bounces and rallies a 20-8 run. Ace Despi (10) of CNU Medellin, made a back to back 3's and a couple of shots that lead them to have a 12 point advantage in the 4th quarter (42-34). From then, CNU Medellin controlled the game and have never give even a single inch of their defense as they overpowered CAS.

The booming music was nothing compared to the loud cheers of the supporters for each candidates. Proud and elegant, the candidates were boozing off with confidence as they perform for the opening like they own the stage. Just like the candidates represent their own departments with pride, their supporters also showed full efforts on cheering to their extent. Mr. Candidate #6 and Ms. Candidate #4 both from CTE Department were the crowds favorite.

Shouts can be heard all over the hall everytime they were in spotlight. Their teammates shouted their respective numbers on the top of their lungs. Talking about the candidates sexy appeals, their swimwear can tell it all. All of them looked hot, setting the stage on fire. Ms. Candidate #5 from CN Department almost gave the crowd a mini heart-attack when she almost stumble but luckily she managed to gain her balance.

Full of confidence and looking like a natural model in a runway was Mr. Candidate #5, also from the same department. After showing their sexy attire, the first set of minor awards was announced. Mr. Beauty Lush and Mr. Slimmer's World International was Candidate #4 from CTE Department and Ms. Beauty Lush was Candidate #2 from CAS Department.

Candidate #7 from CNU Medellin received the Ms. Slimmer's World International award. Mr. Skin 911 and Mr. Atomy Philippines was Candidate #2 from CAS. The funny thing was that he doesn't know that he was Candidate #2 making him standing still on his position looking like it was not him who was called. For Ms. Skin 911 and Ms. Atomy Philippines was candidate Candidate #4 from CTE Department.

Wearing our National Costume, the candidates again walked on the stage showing their different styles of the National Costumes with pride. All of the girl's Filipinana looks dashing but Candidate #7 from CNU Medellin has the most elegant silk gown. Her gown matches her hair and hand gestures that makes her looked like a queen with a fierce and genuine smile.

With his well-defined Barong Tagalog, Candidate #6 from CTE Department looks a gentleman enough as he offered his hand on his partner but unfortunately, his gesture was not reciprocated. The last set of Minor awards was announced after, to wait for the announcing of the Top 5 Semi-finalists. Mr. Congeniality was Candidate #8 from CAS Department and Candidate #1 from CN Department for Ms. Congeniality.

For People's Choice Awards, it was Mr. Candidate #4 and Ms. Candidate #6, both from CTE. Best in Swimwear was Mr. Candidate #2 from CAS and Ms. Candidate #4 from CTE Department. Best in Talent for the females was Candidate #8 from CAS. Mr. Candidate #5 from CN Department won in Darlings of the Press and Best in Talent award. Ms. Candidate #2 from CAS Department received the Darlings of the Press, Best in Production and Best Filipinana award.

In no particular order, from all of the candidates, top 5 in both male and female were selected to proceed to the next round of the competition. Contestant no.4 Clyde Laurido(CTE), Contestant no.2 Hyvein Chris Pilapil(CAS), Contestant no. 5 Jorel Franco Antone Tangpuz(CN), contestant no. 6 John Dave Melencion (CTE) and contestant no. 8 Melvin Panorel (CAS) are lucky ones to be part of the top 5 for the males.

Contestant no. 2 Dulcelyn Insong(CAS), contestant no. 6 Jacklaine Rose Tuyco(CTE), contestant no. 8 Denise Nicole Valle (CAS), contestant no. 4 Khelly Louise Tundag (CTE) and contestant no. 5 Deanne Stephanie Hordita (CN) are the top 5 for females. After from a rough elimination, the top 5 candidates were challenged their wit and grace during on one of the spicest part of the pageant, the Question and Answer portion wherein they are only going to answer the same exact question from others.

College of Arts and Sciences nailed in the Radio Drama competition held at the new TV Barn yesterday. Communication majors, Robee Ryan Isabelo, Jemmuel Man-on, Gerlia Macalua, Kient Canoy and Hazel Asentista Secop, gave pride to the CAS department as they showcased their voice acting talent in Radio Drama. College of Teacher Education ranked the second place while representatives from College of Nursing was ranked the third.

College of Arts and Sciences reigned in two competitions, instrumental solo and kundiman contest, earlier held at Tandang Sora as one of the cultural activities, against rivals from College of Nursing, CNU Medellin and College of Teacher Education. Rolan Christopher Faelnar touched the hearts of the listerners as he played “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit” by Lea Navarro that made him the winner in instrumental solo competition.

Second placer, CTE’s Glyze Allen Marie C. Bordadora used “Hating-gabi” by Antonio Molina for her performance.CNU Medellin was ranked the third as Angelika Yuson played “Nais ko” by Ryan Cayabyab. James Kenneth Baquio was the fourth placer as he played the Visayan lullaby “Ili-ili Tulog Anay”. Piano was the instrument used for this year’s intramural’s instrumental solo competition. Last year, violin was the chosen instrument to be played.

In Kundiman singing contest, Arthur John Dale Yap from CAS, sang “Kundiman ng Luha” by Nicanor Abelardo that made the audience in reverence through his performance making him the winner. Jessa Marie Menor, CN, is the second placer as she sang “Malungkot na Maya” by Jose Estrella. 3rd placer is from CNU Medellin, Jee Marie Calam-isan. She sang same song with the CN’s. Fourth placer is Jay Lapa Derik as he sang “Nasaan Ka, Irog?” by Nicanor Abelardo.

The remaining tension of the Centennial Hall outbursted on the last two segments of Arts and Culture of Intramurals 2017. Aside of heating up the court, Normalites are also induced to fire up the stage. After the Pop Solo and OPM Duet, voices accompanied by instruments were showcased starting with the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) playing Bitiw by Callalily with their new drummer, Anya Francheska Maramara. College of Nursing (CN) played Superhero by Rocksteddy.

CTE had a bizarre performance interpreting a lizard's life while CAS performed a virtual interpretation of extra-judicial killing. Hiphop was also witnessed on stage beginning with CAS in their army-like uniform. Followed by CN with their beautiful but terrible girls and finally, the spine-chilling representatives of CTE.

After College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) won against their rival team, College of Teacher Education (CTE) are now up to their next battle against CNU Balamban for the semi- final round. The team had already their first clash early in the tournament wherein CNU Balamban won by just a half shot (69-68). Whoever wins in this match will fight against the defending champion, CNU Medellin, for the final match.

CTE Men's Team & CAS Women's Team racked up wins and was declared as the over-all champion in volleyball. It was a crucial fight between the CTE and CAS Men's Team. Their competitive spirits were set to their limit to the point wherein their way of spiking the ball were full of emotions. During the two sets, both teams tied in ranking making the game reached to three sets to determine the champion. The final score was 16-25, CTE Men's volleyball team leads.

On the other side, CAS Women's volleyball team defeated CNU Medellin. The intense fight between the two teams made the crowd to be on the edges of their seats. The offense and defense of both teams were very perceptive having the game in a three set play. On the final set, CNU Medellin scored 14 while CAS, 25, making them the champions in the Volleyball Women's Division. #CNUIntramurals2017BringItOn

CTE Chess Team aced both in Men and Women Category for this year's Chess Tournament. With a total points of 18 1/2, CTE Chess team in Womens category beats CAS's 14 1/2 points. Third placer was CNU Medellin with it's 12 points. 8 points for CN Department making them on the last place. For CTE's Men Team, they beat CAS Department for their 2 points advantage. CTE won for their 17 points over CAS's 15 points. CNU Medellin becomes third placer, having 12 1/2 points leaving CN Department's 4 points.

Though the last round was quite difficult for the players because instead of having a 1 hour game every round, it was changed into 45 minutes due to the majority agreement of all the players to shorten the time for the expected booming noise when Cultural Show starts. Two voices, one song. "Makita kang Muli" is a love song that should be sung with an intense emotion as its lyrics emphasizes and this year's OPM Duet Champions Serge Travero and Marielle Minglanilla proved their excellence in singing as they touched the mic of success. The Beach Volleyball was held at the Beach Volleyball court behind Fort San Pedro early in the morning. The participants are: CNU Medellin, CNU Balamban, CAS and CTE Department. After a very long day, all scheduled basketball games were accomplished. A total of 9 games were played this day, having 4 games played in the morning and 5 games in the afternoon. The defending champion, CNU Medellin, once again showcased their skills scoring 66 to nothing against College of Nursing (CN). Storytelling College of Arts and Sciences won against CNU Medellin and College of teacher education in terms of storytelling for this year's intramurals. Regine Elemino, a 3rd year English Literature major, delivered with loud and clear voice the piece "My Father Goes to Court" by Callos Bulusan that made her the winner. The game was uninterruptedly officiated starting with the Game 1 of Female Category where College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in CNU Main Campus met the powerful spikes of CNU Medellin. Alertness and beyond compared intelligence are the factors that these students really have. College of Arts and Sciences successfully won over the College of Teacher Education during the level 2 of the Quiz Bowl Competition. College of Nursing was eliminated after the first round, leaving CAS and CTE to compete for gold. Although the game started a bit late due to heavy rain, the 22 events in the swimming competition were successfully done. Not only that, they also held an open category for outsiders. Mr. and Ms. CNU 2017 launches their Talent's Night at day one. The event started with the male candidates and then followed by the females. Ladies and gentlemen on stage showed different abilities that heated up the floor. Most of them showed their mastery in portraying through live illustration-making. Some showed their abilities in singing, dancing and giving merriment to every one in the hall. Pageantry will continue on Wednesday for the coronation night.

After quite a lot of sets of Regu and a lot of heated struggles, CNU Medellin defeated CNU Balamban with 21-18 on the last Regu. CNU Balamban was declared as the 2nd placer followed by CTE Department and last the CAS Department. #CNUIntramurals2017HotShot

The scorching heat of the sun was nothing compared to their desire for victory. CTE Main Campus bagged gold medals in Athletics Category. Meanwhile, CNU Medellin and CNU Balamban competes to aim for 2nd place. There were 26 events for the Athletics Category alone, and Shildon Dela Rama of CNU Medellin was considered the star player where he showcased his talents for the various events leaving the crowd stuck in awe. Dela Rama will be gearing up to represent CNU in the SCUAA in November.

Dr. Filomena Dayagbil, herself, welcomed everyone and wished the players good luck. Team captains were called in front to raise their respective banners. Afterwards, the lighting of the torch took place, officially signifying the start of Intramurals 2017. The oath taking of the athletes then followed, led by Miss Paraluman Señora.

Today's House Blend: The College of Arts and Sciences held its Recognition Day today at the Samuel McClintock Hall. Student awardees from different programs under CAS attended to be recognized as Dean's Listers. The program started with an invocation, followed by an opening speech from OSA Dean, Mrs Gwendelina Villarante and words of wisdom from Dr. Daisy Palompon, Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Tonight with Evening Brew: Despite the unexpected downfall of rain, Normaranch still proceeded with activities as planned. Instead of holding activities at the inner court, the officers moved the venue to the Samuel McClintock Hall for coverage from the rain. Activities like Cash-Ya and Trashion were held this afternoon, and both events went smoothly. Tonight, the Discoband shall take place at the same venue.
